A cross-party working group on equality, non-discrimination and accessibility will begin meeting on 3 September 2026 to improve Tampere residents’ access to city services.

According to the City of Tampere, a broad equality, non-discrimination and accessibility working group will begin meeting on 3 September 2026, aiming to give more Tampere residents equal access to city services. The group builds on recent inclusion efforts, including the Kaikkien Tampere inclusion programme and earlier plans for an anonymous channel to report racist incidents the anonymous racism-reporting channel.

Members include representatives from all council groups, as well as the youth council, elderly council, disability council, immigrant council, the Roma working group, the children’s parliament and experts from the city’s service areas. It will advance the city’s equality and non-discrimination plan and support implementation of the municipal wellbeing plan. Meetings will be held four times a year during the 2026–2029 council term.

"It is important that we do this work together with Tampere residents in as many voices as possible," says Anne-Mari Jussila, chair of the working group and Deputy Mayor for Education Services. The new body continues equality work launched in 2022, and Antti Asp was chosen as vice-chair at the group’s inaugural meeting.
