Tampere has launched a commercial driverless feeder bus on route 301 near Hervanta after Midsummer. The vehicle operates without an onboard driver and is monitored from a remote control room, YLE reports.

The rollout follows the EU's push to streamline testing and approval of automated driving systems across member states; Finland joined the bloc's declaration on road automation in early June. Kirsi Miettinen of the Ministry of Transport and Communications says a United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) technical regulation for automated driving systems is expected next year. She expects a 2028 timeframe for EU type‑approved automated vehicles to become common on roads. Locally, Tampere transit operator Nysse buys the commercially operated line from Remoted. Remoted, which describes itself as an operator rather than a technology developer, credits Traficom with helping to speed permitting, according to operations manager Arttu Kotilainen. Other Finnish trials are continuing, such as Seinäjoki's RovesUGV logistics project and VTT's automated vehicle tests in closed facilities and on public roads.

The remote‑monitored feeder also complements other recent developments in Tampere's bus network, following the city's earlier tender for new electric articulated buses earlier tender and a study to upgrade dozens of stops for proposed Plusbus routes planned stop upgrades.
