Tampere reroutes buses and trams for May Day; Hämeenkatu closed 11:00–16:00

Transport operator Nysse said in a press release it will alter timetables and routes for Tampere public transport during May Day eve and May Day, affecting services in the city centre on April 30 and May 1, 2026.

On May Day eve (Thursday, April 30) the city will follow Friday timetables, with night services operating on several lines. Night routes that will run include lines 2–10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80Y. A short detour around the Hämeensilta event will affect a handful of bus departures between 23:45 and 00:15. They are limited in number and therefore will not appear in the route planner.

Several buses will be rerouted via Ratinanranta that night, meaning some central stops will be omitted. Lines 2, 7 and 8 will use Ratinanranta and will not call at Keskustori or Koskipuisto. Lines 4, 5 and 50 will start and finish at Sorin aukio G (Hatanpään valtatie); for those departures Keskustori, Koskipuisto and Sorin aukio F will be out of service. Lines 10 and 30 also run via Ratinanranta, while line 40 will use Sorin aukio E (Suvantokatu) as its terminal. Tram traffic may be affected, though buses 20, 70 and 80 can reach Keskustori from the west as normal.

On May Day (Friday, May 1) a Saturday timetable will be in effect and all public transport on Hämeenkatu will be halted between 11:00 and 16:00 because of central events. The closure also affects Hämeenpuisto and forces several tram and bus stops to close during that five-hour window. Closed tram stops between 11:00 and 16:00 are Tuulensuu, Keskustori, Koskipuisto, Sorin aukio and Rautatieasema; line 1 will also omit Sammon aukio and Tulli. Closed bus stops in the same hours include Metso, Aleksanterin kirkko, Näsinpuisto, Hämeenpuisto, Tuulensuu, Keskustori, Koskipuisto, Rautatieasema C and D (Hämeenkatu) and Sorin aukio F.

Nysse has published alternative routings for trams and buses on its route planner and website. Examples include tram 1 running between Lentävänniemi and Pyynikintori (westbound) and Kaupin kampus to Kalevan kirkko (eastbound), tram 3 between Hervanta and Tulli, and multiple bus lines using Ratinanranta and Sorin aukio as temporary terminals.
