Tampere is progressing a zoning plan to permanently allow the Lahdenperä service station on Lahdenperänkatu, removing the need for repeated exceptional permits and protecting nearby green features.

Tampere is advancing a zoning plan, Tamperelainen reports, to guarantee the future of the Lahdenperä service station on Lahdenperänkatu ahead of the community committee meeting next Tuesday. The proposal would formally allow a service station on the site and remove the need for repeated exceptional permits.

The draft plan would increase the site's building rights by 560 gross floor square metres, but city officials say this would not substantially change the situation created by earlier temporary approvals. The station, once a Shell and now an St1 station, could remain on its current lot under the proposal.

Planners have also protected local green features. The Vihioja open channel south of the station is to be retained and must not be piped, and a row of trees must separate the Niittyraitti pedestrian and cycle path from the adjacent road. The existing young trees will be preserved, and any lost trees must be replaced. The community committee will decide whether to recommend the plan to the city board and city council.
