Tampere's Night of the Museums Lights Up City with 40+ Events on May 16
Night of the Museums returns to Tampere on Saturday 16 May with more than 40 exhibitions, family activities, performances and a wristband that covers entry and Night of the Museums buses.
According to the City of Tampere, Tampere will host Night of the Museums on Saturday, May 16, with more than 40 exhibitions and events across the city. It's a city-wide late-night celebration of art and culture.
Major venues take part. Museum Centre Vapriikki will present 11 exhibitions, including a new "Football World Cup Through the Ages" display. The Tampere Art Museum is staging Encore! Classics and Contemporary Art from the Collections, while the Sara Hildén Art Museum opens a Freshly Painted exhibition timed for the night.
Family programming ranges from clown-led tours at the Tampere Art Museum and children's activities and face painting at the Moomin Museum to craft workshops at Stable Yards and life-drawing sessions at Museum Milavida.
Special projects include Himmelblau printmaking studio's nonstop drawing workshop, which will feed a street painting in the Finlayson Art Area. Visual artist Inka Hannula leads a collage workshop.
Live performance is a major draw. Circo Aereo mixes acrobatics and live visual art at Sara Hildén, Tabula Rasa headlines at Vapriikki, and musicians from the Tampere Philharmonic offer short concerts at the Tampere Art Museum. DJs, samba parades, swing lessons, retro gaming, football quizzes and adult-themed tours at the Amuri Museum of Historic Housing add further variety.
Wristbands (€18, €17 with a Museum Card; free for children under seven) cover entry to all venues and the Night of the Museums buses between sites from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and are sold at participating museums.
