Teiskontie speed limit cut to 40 km/h; traffic light timings to be reviewed
Tampere will lower the speed limit on Teiskontie between Kalevan puistotie and Uimalankatu from 50 to 40 km/h to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users. A study will examine junction work and traffic light timing to preserve traffic flow.
The city's community committee approved lowering the speed limit on the busy stretch of Teiskontie between Kalevan puistotie and Uimalankatu from 50 to 40 km/h, aiming to improve safety where large numbers of pedestrians, cyclists, buses and trams operate, Tamperelainen reports. Officials say the slower limit will boost safety at intersections and crosswalks and reduce traffic noise for nearby residents. No major impact on traffic flow is expected because vehicles are mainly regulated by traffic lights, and the change also brings Teiskontie in line with Sammonkatu. The committee has ordered a study of measures to preserve traffic flow on the stretch, including junction work at both ends and adjustments to traffic‑light timing and coordination. The decision follows earlier delays after a split committee vote in September that postponed the cuts.
