Tamperelainen reports that traffic changes in Tampere's city center take effect by 3 pm this Friday as the work zone shifts east of the Puutarhakatu–Aleksis Kiven Street intersection.
Access from Aleksis Kiven Street to Puutarhakatu will be opened, and a driving route to Central Square parking will run along the edge of Central Square. Puutarhakatu will become one-way from the Aleksis Kiven Street direction.
Work crews will then move to the Hämeenpuisto end to connect water mains, and Puutarhakatu will be renewed between Old Church Park and Hämeenpuisto. The renovation began in March 2025 and will continue through this year, replacing aging water and sewer pipes and installing district cooling pipes. After completion, the street will feature a wider two-way bike lane on the north edge, sidewalks on both sides, and a one-way motor vehicle lane, with improved walking and cycling conditions, traffic safety and stormwater management.
according to Tamperelainen.
