Traffic lights have replaced the temporary roundabout at the busy Hatanpään valtatie–Tampereen valtatie junction after Jokikatu reopened as a one-way southbound street, restoring pre-construction turning patterns and signal-controlled crossings.

Traffic lights were switched back on overnight at the Hatanpään valtatie and Tampereen valtatie junction, replacing a temporary roundabout used during tram construction, YLE reports.

The roundabout is gone, and Jokikatu has reopened as a one-way street heading south from Viinikka, easing some of the detours drivers faced during the works. Drivers should notice fewer route changes.

Turning movements now follow the pre-construction street plans: northbound traffic from Hämeenpuisto toward the bus station will be routed via Vuolteenkatu, while vehicles coming from Viinikka toward Hatanpää should use Jokikatu.

Most pedestrian and cycle crossings at the junction are now controlled by lights. A southern crosswalk across Hatanpään valtatie is scheduled to open later this autumn. Traffic flow will be monitored and signal programming adjusted if needed.

Tampere Tram’s Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance continues finishing work at the crossing and will install the overhead wires later. Final traffic arrangements for the entire tram line are planned for 2027, and passenger tram service to Kauppi campus, Ruotula and between Sorin aukio and Partola is set to begin in August 2028.
