Hatanpää junction to close as temporary roundabout is converted to T-junction
Major traffic changes at Hatanpää will close a junction and suspend bus stops from July 23–27 due to tram construction and street renewal, with a temporary roundabout converted to a T-junction on July 27.
Major traffic changes are coming to Hatanpää at the end of July as tram construction and street renewal work force lane shifts, junction closures and suspended bus stops between July 23 and July 27, Tamperelainen reports.
Work on Lahdenperänkatu will shift traffic to the north side overnight on July 23–24 so crews can renew the south side. The driveway to Lahdenperänkatu 4 will be closed and vehicle access rerouted via Hatanpään valtatie. Bus stops Hatanpään hovi 2528 and 2529 will remain closed, likely until the end of August. At the western end of Lahdenperänkatu the city will replace traffic lights, street lighting and pedestrian and cycle routes between Hatanpään valtatie and Kolmionkatu. The whole street renewal is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.
On July 27 the eastern junction of Hatanpään valtatie and Hatanpään puistokuja will be closed to cars as the temporary roundabout is removed and the intersection converted to a T-junction. The closure is expected to last until the end of October. East-side car traffic will be routed via Lokomonkatu, which is due to open to through traffic when water works finish by July 27. Vehicle access on Siirtolapuutarhankatu will return to normal in both directions. Pedestrian and cycle connections will be kept in place, with the crosswalk moved to the south side. On-site signage will guide traffic and maintain access to properties and services during each work phase.
This work continues the expansion of tram construction along Hatanpään valtatie in April and recent night works to install tram wires and tracks in the area, which have prompted phased traffic arrangements through the summer.
