Tram Alliance Finishes Lahdenperänkatu Renewal, Opens Free Right‑Turn Lane into Hatanpään valtatie Roundabout

Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance said renewal works on Lahdenperänkatu between Hatanpään valtatie and Kolmionkatu finished in mid‑October, and a free right‑turn lane into the Hatanpään valtatie roundabout from Lahdenperänkatu opened on the night of 15–16 October.

The project replaced traffic lights, street lighting and pedestrian routes along the stretch. New traffic signals at the Lahdenperänkatu 3 junction were switched on Thursday 15 October. Drainage was improved and final road markings were scheduled for week 42 (12–16 October). The contractor now considers the street works complete.

Pedestrians and cyclists have clearer separation: a segregated pedestrian and cycle path was built on the north side, and a dedicated bus stop waiting area added. The south‑side combined path was converted into a standard sidewalk. Eastbound traffic now has one lane toward Nekala up to the Kolmionkatu junction, while two lanes continue westbound toward Hatanpään valtatie.

Tram construction at the Hatanpään valtatie intersection progressed this autumn, allowing traffic to be partly shifted onto the track area. The temporary roundabout received the new free right‑turn lane for city‑bound traffic on 15–16 October and is expected to remain in use until around summer 2027, when traffic lights will replace it. Project manager Kari Kuuttila is overseeing the Hatanpää section of the work.

The work follows earlier phases of tram track construction and staged lane and traffic changes along Hatanpään valtatie this year that began in April; traffic lights were activated at the Hatanpää junction during the finishing works as the tram works progressed.
