Zoning revision launched for Tampere Bus Station site in Ratina–Sori

The City of Tampere proposes a grocery store and expanded retail services at the central bus station, Tamperelainen reports. The proposal is linked to the start of a zoning amendment process, and the city's participation and assessment plan is on display for public comment until 7 May.

Planners will study traffic arrangements to make the station a stronger node for long-distance and local services — and to improve pedestrian links. The 1938 bus station building, designed by Bertel Strömmer, Jaakko Laaksovirta and Reino Ahjopalo, is part of a nationally significant built cultural environment and carries a protection marking. The area is owned by the city and is currently zoned as a passenger terminal block under the 2013 plan.
