The Karkunvuori Tunnel on Highway 9 (E63) in Tampere will be closed in alternating tubes overnight on the nights of 7–8 and 8–9 September for scheduled inspections. Westbound tube A will be shut from 21:00 to 06:00 on the night between Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 September. The eastbound tube B closes the following night, between Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September, during the same hours. Traffic will follow signed municipal detour routes and the road will reopen as soon as inspection work is finished. Temporary traffic arrangements and sign placement will be handled by Pimara Väyläpalvelut Oy. Karkunvuori is a 180-metre motorway tunnel bored through granite. It was built in 1993 as part of Tampere’s eastern bypass and sits roughly 2 kilometres east of the Lakalaiva interchange on Highway 9. The closures follow earlier overnight tunnel maintenance in the city, including the Helsinginkatu tunnel closure in May Helsinginkatu closure and a prior shutdown for work on the Hämeenlinna tunnel Hämeenlinna tunnel maintenance.
