Night resurface work starts on Ikuri Road, Hervanta thoroughfare and Ratapihankatu
Nighttime resurfacing and pavement repairs will start on Ikuri Road, Hervanta's main thoroughfare, and on Ratapihankatu in Tampere; most work will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption.
Road resurfacing and repairs begin Monday on Ikuri Road, Hervanta's main thoroughfare, and on Ratapihankatu in Tampere, Tamperelainen reports.
The work follows the city's recent night resurfacing on Teiskontie and comes after resurfacing on seven road sections across Pirkanmaa in late September.
Most work will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption. Traffic control will be in place at all sites. On Ikuri, crews will work Monday evening between 19:00 and 06:00, renewing the pavement between Tesomankatu and Maamiehentie. Hervanta's thoroughfare will be resurfaced on 13–14 October, with night work from 19:00–06:00 covering the stretch from Sammonkatu to the rail bridge past Rieväkatu and the section between Sammonkatu and Vuohensillankatu. Ratapihankatu will receive rut repairs on 14–15 October, with night work on both carriageways from the northern roundabout and tunnel mouth to Vellamonkatu.
Teams will use two recycling techniques. The lane-remix method reprocesses and relays the existing asphalt edge to edge on site, while the rut-remix method targets rutted areas for repair. Recycled pavement typically achieves around 70–80 percent of the lifespan of new material. Weather and possible equipment breakdowns can affect schedules, so drivers and other road users are asked to obey traffic arrangements at the work sites.
