Teivo Racecourse in Ylöjärvi will transfer parts of its land for the planned Teivo‑Mäkkylä neighbourhood but will keep its covered grandstands and existing training loop while planning a replacement training loop targeted for 2027.

Teivo Racecourse in Ylöjärvi is preparing for land transfers and area reorganisation ahead of restoration works starting in November. The racecourse will retain its covered grandstands and the existing training loop, officials told Tamperelainen.

The racecourse has planned the changes in close cooperation with Ylöjärvi city, as the surrounding area is earmarked for a new neighbourhood, Teivo‑Mäkkylä, that could house some 5,000 residents. Staff have already improved paddock lighting and begun earthmoving in the stable area to prepare for the handovers. Extension agreements with the city allow continued use of the grandstands and the existing training loop, keeping harness races, the racing school and everyday training operating safely.

Teivo is advancing plans for a replacement training loop with input from industry professionals Joni-Petteri Irri and Markku Nieminen. Construction is targeted to start in 2027 once the necessary permits are in place. Management says the goal is a controlled transition that preserves safe conditions for competitions and horse training.
